Ecommerce Advertising in Germany

The most technically demanding market we work in — consent, returns law and payment habits all push against the way a US account is normally built.

What’s actually different here

Served, not occupied

Consent mode and GDPR are not optional

German consent rates are materially lower than US ones, which starves the pixel and makes the platform's reported numbers less reliable. Server-side tracking and consent mode aren't a nice-to-have here, they're the difference between an account that can optimise and one that can't.

Statutory returns rights change the margin

A 14-day statutory withdrawal right, and a returns culture built around it, means return rates in some categories run far above what a US P&L assumes. Contribution margin has to be modelled after returns or the whole account is being scaled on a number that isn't real.

Invoice and direct debit still matter

A meaningful share of German shoppers expect to pay on invoice or by direct debit. Missing payment methods look like a conversion problem and get misdiagnosed as an ad problem.

We don’t have an office in Germany. We buy media into it from Canada, and we’d rather say that plainly than list an address we don’t occupy.
